Our “Ghost Town Alive!” experience at Knott’s Berry Farm

On Sunday, my family and I, with our friends (and Westside Mommy contributors) Jonna Coleman and her daughters Shelby and Lucy, attended a special press event at Knott’s Berry Farm to experience Ghost Town Alive! Ghost Town is one of my favorite sections of Knott’s Berry Farm, because the theme, characters, and the great food!

Ghost Town Alive! brings the town of Calico to life with character actors, story lines, activities, and more! We participated in a Ghost Town Alive! Photo Hunt, which helped us explore and document our adventures through social media, with a chance to win prizes throughout the day.

Thank you, Knott’s Berry Farm, we had a fantastic time!

Here are some of our favorites from the day:

Reading the Latest News in the “Calico Gazette”

What’s cool is they had different newspaper headlines throughout the day (the second paper’s headline was “Mayfield Captured”), and the content was like a real old-timey newspaper with relevant information for other Ghost Town Alive! events, such as “Vote Wheeler for Sheriff”, “Sad Eye Joe Gets Parole Date”, and A Special Invitation to the Hoedown.

Learning something new in the town Schoolhouse

The school teacher tried to show the girls how to play Game of Graces, a two-player catching game for girls invented in France, and very popular in the 1800’s. She wasn’t very successful with our four and seven year olds, but I commend her for trying!

Making friends with farm animals at the Livery Stable

We always love visiting the farm animals. During our visit, we saw some friendly horses and a donkey!

Getting thrown in the town jail by the Sheriff

The girls were good sports about this and enjoyed being thrown in jail. It was probably because the Sheriff was really convincing and stayed in character the entire time. While our girls were in jail, they threw a few other kids in there too. We joked that they should stay in there while the adults leave to ride some coasters 🙂

We were guests at an impromptu “wedding” in Calico Town Hall

It was fun to see everyone stay in character. The dark-haired lady’s reactions were hilarious.

We rode a train and got “held up”

This picture makes him look a lot more menacing than he actually is. “Robberies” happen on the Calico Train, but the actors are super friendly and make their way through the train, interacting with all the guests.

Snoopy’s Magnificent Magical Revue

We enjoyed the magic show when Snoopy became an official magician – really good talent and surprisingly, I would see that show again.” – Jonna Coleman

The magic show was really cool! It was all about Snoopy earning his magic abilities. He had to learn how to pull a rabbit out of a hat. The funniest part was when he pulled the rabbit out of the hat and instead pulled out a rabbit, Snoopy pulled out a young woman with a bunny eared headband! – Shelby

Hoedown

“We had so much fun at the hoedown and it reminded me that I have to get my kids to a square dancing event because it’s so fun and I used to do it when I was a kid.” – Jonna Coleman

Lucy’s first blog post (age 7)

I love Knott’s Berry Farm so much! This is the first time I remember going to an actual amusement park. There were so many rides! They had Snoopy and all the Peanuts gang at Knott’s Berry Farm! We got to meet Snoopy lots of times because we were eating with him and he was also in a magic show! I got to ride a fast kids’ roller coaster in Camp Snoopy. There were lots of rides in Camp Snoopy. I got to ride a real train, which was so much fun and relaxing. I love Knott’s Berry Farm!
