The Mindy Project: Six Seasons of Style Curated by Costume Designer Salvador Perez

Currently on display (until October 1st) at The Paley Center For Media in Beverly Hills, is an awesome, FREE exhibit – The Mindy Project: Six Seasons of Style Curated by Costume Designer Salvador Perez. Last Friday, I attended a special VIP tour led by Salvador Perez himself! He shared with us some fantastic stories about how some of the outfits came about, and how heavily involved Mindy was in the costuming process. She was a big fan of fittings and the two of them have become close friends. She loved some of the outfits so much, she’s purchased them for her personal closet.

I’m a fan of The Mindy Project, not only because Mindy Kaling is a hilarious and extremely talented woman, but because of the awesome clothes her character Mindy Lahiri wears! She has become a style icon, and an inspiration. I recently cleaned out my closet and am ready to carefully curate some new pieces. Mindy’s closet is the perfect place to spark some ideas, especially since our skin tones and body styles are similar.

About Salvador Perez

Salvador Perez worked as the costume designer on The Mindy Project during it’s entire run. Prior to The Mindy Project, he’s worked on Veronica MarsPitch Perfect, and Pitch Perfect 2, to name a few. He’s currently the elected president of the Costume Designers Guild.

The Exhibit

The most memorable outfits are on display in the bright, spacious first floor of the Paley Center. Colorful patterns, shapes, photos, and quotes from the movie adorn the walls and monitors with specific scenes looped lie adjacent to the matching costumes.

The second floor, and stairs leading to it, contain more costumes as well as costars’ costumes.
