Last Saturday (May 23rd), I attended Baby Boot Camp Los Angeles (Culver City and Marina Del Rey)‘s Mom’s Night Out. We took three free (20 minute) intro classes at Believe Fitness Studio in El Segundo. I’ve wanted to try out classes at this studio ever since I saw the photo of Baby Boot Camp instructors (and co-owners) Melinda and Elizabeth posted from their aerial silks class!
At Believe Fitness Studio‘s Open House, our group took hoop, pole, and aerial silk classes. Before class, we hung out and snacked on fruits and desserts (yum). There was also a group warm-up before they broke us into our sessions.
Hoop Class
In the hoop class, they showed us how to lift ourselves on the hoop using one foot, then make our way to the top of the hoop in a sitting position. Eventually, we learned how to pose in the hoop and then get down. It killed my arms, and I wasn’t graceful at all, but it sure was fun. Melinda and Elizabeth looked great – and not just because they’ve taken the class before. Melinda has a background in gymnastics, and Elizabeth was a ballerina.

Pole
I don’t have photos from this section because it was really dark. Besides that, pole class is about being comfortable with yourself and being confident with the moves. The instructor made us laugh when she explained how to do some things. She told us (and showed us) to think about “twerking” as one part “grandma” – crouched shoulders and butt down – and one part “Friday night at the club” – butt up, shoulders back and head high. We also learned how to stand at the pole, walk around it, spin down to the ground, and get up and pose. The class was a lot of fun, and taking it with my Baby Boot Camp Los Angeles (Culver City and Marina Del Rey) friends made it feel like a slumber party!
Silks
I’m not sure if I liked the hoop class the best or the silk class. By the time we got to silks, my arms were pretty tired. I was inspired by Melinda and Elizabeth’s endurance and impressed with their silk skills. The rest of us beginners learned how to wrap our arms in the silk, invert and pose, as well as wrap one foot and climb to the top. The climbing was really tough to get the hang of, but once I did, I had a blast!

Another fun Mom’s Night Out!
We all had a really good time. It was a great way to bond with our instructors and other moms in the group. Melinda and Elizabeth make sure Baby Boot Camp Los Angeles (Culver City and Marina Del Rey) is about friendship, fitness and fun. I’m so glad I’m a part of this community of strong moms and look forward to the next mom’s night out!
