“Trust Your Intuition” – a book to help deal with anxiety and depression

I recently received the book, “Trust Your Intuition” by Jill Sylvester, LMHC to review. I suffered from postpartum depression and anxiety with my first child, but never formally addressed it. Fast forward to six years later, add array of life stuff (good and bad), and throw a second kid into the mix…well, I became a powder keg ready to blow.

It’s not easy to admit you need help, especially when society and social media tell you otherwise. I didn’t accept it for awhile myself, thinking I already knew what to expect because this was my second kid. However, it was a culmination of instances and things that led me to acknowledge my issues and seek help. This book is just one of many things that helped me get on the path to feeling better.

Whether you are in need of medical, professional help or not, the book “Trust Your Intuition” is a helpful read with tips towards positive mental health. It lists and explains 100 ways to deal with anxiety and depression. Each suggestion has a “call to action” box where you can put what you read into practice.

There are five parts to the book: Hold On; Take Good Care of Yourself; Believe; Trust Your Intuition; and Feel Better. The tips progress from simple to more complex as you dive deeper in the book. From “Breathe” to “Reframe Your Situation” to “Eat Right,” the suggestions are reasonable and practical. I appreciate the author’s personal shares and honesty.

While I am pretty far in the book, I have not finished it. I definitely think it’s a book to take your time reading and implementing, as healing can be a long and difficult process. Thank you, Jill, for sending me the book!
