BUTI Yoga class and Mom’s night out
Zooga BUTI Class
A couple of weeks ago, I went to my first Mom’s Night Out with Baby Boot Camp Los Angeles (Culver City and Marina Del Rey). It was a lot of fun – we had a private Zooga BUTI Class at Zooga Yoga (with wine after class), followed by dinner at Pho Show. I had no idea what BUTI class entailed, but I was curious to check it out because Melinda is a regular and says it’s an intense but very fun workout. Melinda, one of the co-owners and trainers of Baby Boot Camp Los Angeles (Culver City and Marina Del Rey), is really fit, so I was prepared to sweat buckets.
I’ve driven by Zooga Yoga several times on my way to Target, and am happy I finally had the opportunity to check it out. Antonia, the owner, greeted me. She is nice and very easy to talk to. The studio smelled wonderful and space is designed well. The adorable animal theme from the logo continues on the walls of the studio and even into the bathroom! Zooga Yoga holds a variety of classes for kids and adults. Zooga BUTI is a class for adults.
This is Zooga Yoga’s description of this one-hour class:
BUTI is a high-intensity workout that consists of deep stretching, BUTI shaking and heart-pounding cardio. BUTI dance moves are taken from various styles that focus on an intense shaking of the hips (and BUTI) including Miami Booty Dance, Brazilian Funk, Hip Hop, Crunk and African Tribal. BUTI is sure to get your energy high and your abs tight!
This is Peter, the instructor’s, description of the class (under his profile):
In Buti we employ plyometrics, deep stretching, and easy to follow dance moves to invigorate our health while jamming to some delicious tunes. Come and join where we can concentrate on freeing our minds, bodies, and souls while all the time shaking our BUTI.
And this is MY description of Peter’s BUTI class:
I hope you’ve done your fair share of squats and burpees, because this class is intense! BUTI class with Peter at Zooga Yoga is a mash-up of yoga, high-energy cardio, sexy-strip dancing (without actually stripping), hip hop, and funk with boot-camp intensity and music that transforms the studio into a dance club environment. BUTI class makes you feel like you are in a Beyonce music video and slumber party at the same time. Peter’s background in ballet, jazz, yoga, and stage and screen performance combined with his personal instruction style creates a class that allows you to let loose and feel comfortable in your own skin.
I was so sore the next day, but it was a good sore! BUTI class is definitely an exercise for the booty, but it is an overall great workout and a really good time. I highly recommend it!
Wine and a Raffle
After class, we had snacks, wine, and sparkling cider. There was a raffle, which I won (yay!).

Dinner at Pho Show
A few of the ladies had to get home after the class. The rest of us went to a Vietnamese restaurant down the street (on Sepulveda and Lindblade in Culver City) called Pho Show. I’m glad we went, because I’ve been looking for a solid pho place on the Westside. This place was pretty good and their prices are reasonable. I took my husband and daughter there a few days after, and they enjoyed it too.
Baby Boot Camp Los Angeles (Culver City and Marina Del Rey) is a great place to workout and meet other moms! Check it out a class if you haven’t already.
