California Strawberry Festival Experience
On Saturday, my family and I attended the California Strawberry Festival for the first time. This two-day event celebrates everything strawberry in the heart of Oxnard, which is where most strawberries in Southern California are grown.
Strawberry Shortcake Tent
One of the fun food activities we participated in was the “build-it-yourself” strawberry shortcake tent. For only $5.00, you are given a disposable bowl, which you can pile as high as you wish with pound cake, strawberries, and strawberries in sauce. There’s one way in and one way out, so be sure to fill your bowl to your heart’s desire before you exit!
Strawberryland for Kids
This was a very popular area. There were $1 rides for kids. My kid rode the coaster (her favorite), and the spinning bullet ride. If we got there earlier (and if we were more prepared for the rain), we would have stayed longer and done more. Other cool activities (that my kid was too small for) included a rock wall with bouncer options. We missed the magic show, but hope to catch more activities and shows next year!
Farm-fresh strawberries are SO good! Even though grocery stores are selling them for very low prices, it’s worth it to buy strawberries closer to the source. We brought home a couple baskets of strawberries and enjoy them every day. I think about making them into something but I thoroughly enjoy eating them fresh. No sugar necessary!
Definitely put this annual event on your radar for next year!
