Oxnard, California is about an hour’s drive from Los Angeles and is a leading producer of strawberries. It is Ventura County’s largest crop, generating over $654 million in 2016. The annual California Strawberry Festival, held in Oxnard, pays tribute to California’s billion dollar strawberry industry. This two-day celebration attracts almost 60,000 visitors of all ages. Here are some things to look forward to:

Strawberry Foods

How many different variations of food can you create with strawberries? Ever thought about strawberry nachos? Strawberry pizza? You can try these and some classic favorites (strawberry margaritas, strawberry smoothies, strawberry shortcake) and more from over 50 vendors at the California Strawberry Festival. What’s better than strawberry-everything? Knowing that the proceeds from non-profit food booths benefit southland charities.

Maybe you should bring a change of clothes because it can get a little messy, but mess is part of the fun! Festivalgoers can sign up for the Strawberry Pie Eating Contest, gooey Tart Toss and the timed Strawberry Relay Race (teams attempt to go through a series of obstacles to assemble and eat a strawberry creation in the fastest time). Always festival favorites are: the Berry Best Hat Contest and Berry Best Dressed Baby Contest. Winners all receive prizes.
