“Go for the Moon” Andrew and Polly CD Review

Dynamic children’s music duo Andrew & Polly are releasing their fifth album, “Go for the Moon” later this month (September 27th). I received an advance copy to review.

I first heard Andrew & Polly at an event at Children’s Book World several years ago. I enjoyed their music and was happy to see them at other events around Los Angeles. Local to the Westside (Venice/Santa Monica) area of L.A., Andrew & Polly didn’t have to travel far to obtain sounds of the Pacific Ocean, included in this latest album. Other fun sounds include: a choir, a remixed JFK speech, and a musical saw. I was pleased to hear the familiar voice of one of my other favorite children’s music artist, Mista Cookie Jar, collaborate in the song “Chair School”. Other album collaborators include: GRAMMY winner Lucy Kalantari, and Mike Phirman.

The CD starts off with their version of the hit Smash Mouth tune, “All Star”, which my 6-year old also recognized. I giggled at the all too familiar feeling from the song “Mom’s Name”, where parents have a difficult time remembering the actual names of one another. “Chair School” is a hilarious song with a fun but important lesson for young children.

The album is definitely creative, with an eclectic mix of songs, sounds, and vocals. If you’re a fan of Andrew & Polly, you’re sure to enjoy this CD. If you haven’t heard of them before, listen to their album Ear Snacks: Songs from the Podcast first.

Go for the Moon will be available at CDBaby, www.AndrewandPolly.com, and at Andrew & Polly’s live shows.
