What to wear for date night, girls’ night, and a baby shower – by guest contributor Maria Aldana
Special occasions are few and far and between, but when they come up, I want to be prepared. I asked my fashion-educated, stylish friend and fellow mommy Maria Aldana to be a guest contributor for this series of questions to revamp my wardrobe. She always looked great during her pregnancy, and she is just as stylish today. I’ve added some links from Amazon for additional inspiration. This is part 3 of a 4 part series. Check back every Wednesday!
About Maria by Maria
“I’ve always been into fashion at a young age, but took a strong interest when I was in London for my undergraduate degree in 2002. Two years ago, I left the corporate world and decided to go back to school. I attended Parsons in NYC and studied fashion design. Less than a week after I moved to NY, I was literally thrown into the fashion world. I worked backstage at the Cynthia Rowley runway show and along side with her and her design team. I learned my way around NYC and the subway system very quickly running fashion errands around the city. I also worked for the fabric team at Vera Wang and took a strong interest in learning about various textiles and prints. Last year, I got married and moved back to Seattle where my son was born. He’s now 8 months old and I’m enjoying the joys of being a new mom. I still keep current with the fashion world through social media and the web. I’m currently working on an organic baby line. I’m designing my own fabric and prints right now, which is really exciting.”

Q. What are some good “go-to” outfits that will last for at least 3-4 months for the following (rare) occasions such as date night, girls night, and a baby shower?
Dinner date night –
I’m still waiting for this day to come! I already have some outfits in mind. This is your time to go all out and please, no yoga pants. I always refer to my classic pieces and pair it with something more trendy, like a bright colored shoe or a statement jewelry piece.
Friend’s Baby Shower –
I actually attended a baby shower last Saturday and you will not believe how many times I changed my outfit. Now that I have a baby and I’m nursing, it’s tough for me to just wear any of the dresses or tops I’ve had in my closet before baby. My final outfit choice was a simple v neck lace dress, a black blazer and ankle boots. (Notice the key pieces I mentioned above) Now that Spring is here, maxi dresses and lightweight jersey dresses are always stylish, yet comfortable.
Girls Night Out –
Once again, I always refer to my key pieces. Find a pencil skirt in a more daring fabric type or graphic print and wear it with a pair of shoes with a higher heel than you normally would. The pencil skirt is a perfect length to wear that 3-4 inch heel.
