Friday, July 14

Get into spirit animal mode as we celebrate the fantastical creatures from the imagination of celebrated artist Jason Hackenwerth. Dance among the large scale, internally lit sculptures of his latest installation at FIGat7th Plaza and check out his whimsical wearable sculptures fabricated out of balloons as they bounce to the beat of our Quiet Clubbing DJs.

Arts Brookfield will host a raffle for those who dress up with the winner getting a $250 gift certificate to FIGat7th. Start the night off early in TASTE Courtyard with a happy hour and DJ Daisy O’Dell of NONA Entertainment at 4 pm followed by the Show-Your-Spirit-Animal Quiet Clubbing Party at 6 pm. RSVP recommended HERE and early arrival suggested.

Show us your Animal Soul at the best outdoor dance party this Summer!

ABOUT ANIMAL SOUL

Artist Jason Hackenwerth transforms common materials, such as the latex balloon, into unusual forms with pre-determined color patterns to create sculptures resembling animals, insects, aliens, or other colorful products of your imagination. His playful works have been exhibited internationally at a number of famous institutions and fairs including the Guggenheim, Scotland Museum of Art, Victoria and Albert Museum, the Venice Biennale, and Art Basel, Miami.

For the installation Animal Soul, Arts Brookfield has commissioned Hackenwerth to create three large-scale, internally lit, inflated sculptures based on his famous balloon designs. These sculptures tower over the viewer at 20 to 30 feet high and will be on view for nine days in downtown LA this Summer.

Hackenwerth will also create two wearable sculptures made entirely of sewn balloons. Doubling as costumes, they come to life when donned by dancers that navigate our ordinary world in their brightly hued balloon skin. Run wild in this fantastical world of giant, friendly creatures!
