Kindergarten Cooking: Rainbow Fruit Skewers

Today’s post is sponsored by Milk & Eggs.

The cooking lesson in my daughter’s class this week was Rainbow Fruit Skewers. I volunteered to supply most of the requested ingredients for the lesson through my Milk & Eggs sponsorship. It’s piece of mind to know I can get an order of farm-fresh produce to my doorstep the same morning I need it. Definitely a time-saving win!

They read a book, learned about the colors of the rainbow, and assembled fruit to represent the rainbow.

Book: The Berenstain Bears and Too Much Junk Food

Summary: Mama Bear lays down the law when she notices that Papa and the cubs are getting too chubby. With the help of Dr. Grizzly’s slide show on how the body works, the Bear family makes a healthful adjustment in their diet and fitness habits.

The kids were interested in this book, and everyone paid attention. They cringed a bit when they saw the drawings of x-rays but also thought it was cool!

Learning about colors and rainbows

Then, the lesson leader brought out this color-coordinated fruit chart as a reference of “rainbow order” to arrange the fruit on skewers.

Assembling the fruit skewer

Each child has a “station” of the fruit to assemble. They practiced their motor skills by opening a tangerine and cutting the top off the strawberry.

Some kids had their own idea of how to do it

Yup. My kid.

The finished fruit skewer

A+ for this kid.
