Level Up: Testing for my Second-Degree Yellow Belt at Tae Ryong Brentwood TKD
Two Saturdays ago (September 30th), I tested for my second degree yellow belt. This was make-up testing because I was sick for regular testing (Saturday, Sept. 9th). I’m happy to announce: I passed! I was a little nervous about make-up testing, because Master Quan said it’s harder – to discourage people from doing make-up testing; and because I was out-of-town two weeks before, not working out at all. It’s always difficult staying fit while on vacation, but when I got back to town, I went to class as often as I could. Thankfully, we did “practice tests”, and I felt confident when test day approached.
When it was time to break the board with a side-kick, I did not succeed on the first try. After the second unsuccessful attempt, I was quite frustrated. Finally by the third (or was it fourth?) try, I broke it. I know I was nervous because everyone was watching, but thank goodness I finally did it. A true lesson in “If at first you don’t succeed; try, try again” and “keep your eye on the prize”.
Thank you, Master Quan, and thank you friends, for all your support!
