MOLO Week 8: Oblique Twist Variations

This week’s Baby Boot Camp Mother Love Fitness Challenge (MOLO): Oblique Twist Variations. Last week was Push Up Circuit

Week 8: Oblique Twist Variations

From the Baby Boot Camp MOLO newsletter:

Twisting, rotating and turning are all very basic parts of how we move each day. Think about every time you reach back in the car to retrieve a sippy cup or secure a pacifier in place. You need a strong core to do this and your obliques play a big part in your core movement.

Your oblique muscles (side abdominals) help you bend from the side or twist your torso. There are two sets of oblique muscles: internal and external obliques. Your external oblique muscles are the ones with visible definition, and just beneath them are your internal oblique muscles. The motion of oblique twists firms your obliques and your transverse abdominals.

Focus On Form: Standing Oblique Twist

  1. Stand tall with your feet shoulder-width apart.
  2. Extend both arms with palms facing down.
  3. With your head straight and core muscles engaged, look straight ahead and contract your abdominals.
  4. Inhale to prepare. Exhale while turning your arms and torso to the right side.
  5. Return to the starting position and repeat on the opposite side.

MOLO assignment: Plan your meals for the week. Make sure to incorporate plenty of fresh fruits & veggies.

My husband planned our meals for the week. I cooked chicken Thai Curry with lots of veggies, turkey street tacos, and turkey sausage with penne and tomato sauce. I made the tomato sauce from scratch and used fresh basil.  Baby Boot Camp Los Angeles (Culver City and Marina Del Rey) has a really good recipe in their newsletter I want to try – cauliflower crust pizza. Maybe next week…

MOLO assignment: Try a new healthy snack today. Tell us about it on our MOLO FB page.

I didn’t know about KIND bars until I started working out with  Baby Boot Camp Los Angeles (Culver City and Marina Del Rey). I am hooked.  They are really tasty and you don’t realize they are good for you too. Trainers Melinda and Elizabeth give great advice on ways to make healthy snacking interesting.

MOLO assignment: Do 5 oblique twists on each side each time you check Facebook today. Make sure to breathe deeply and engage your abs!

Baby Boot Camp Los Angeles (Culver City and Marina Del Rey) MOLO Challenge always has a Facebook challenge and I completely forgot about it this day. I ended up doing 40 oblique twists by the end of the day!

MOLO assignment: Add more fruits and vegetables into your family’s diet without anyone noticing.

I made chicken Thai curry. I used a lot of vegetables, and it was really tasty. 🙂

MOLO assignment: Bring a friend to class day! Introduce a friend to Baby Boot Camp.

I didn’t go to class on Thursday, but I encourage all my mommy friends to try out Baby Boot Camp! If you are on the Westside, definitely check out the location where I take classes – Baby Boot Camp Los Angeles (Culver City and Marina Del Rey). If you live anywhere else, check their website (  for the Baby Boot Camp class closest to you! It’s also a great place to work out while pregnant!
