New Baby Nice-to-Haves

Several weeks ago, I posted New Baby Necessities, about basic items for caring for a new baby. Since then, I’ve used some items I found super-helpful, most of them received as gifts or gifted hand-me-downs (which I prefer). I’m sure this list will grow, but here’s what I’ve loved so far:

Keekaroo Peanut Changer

This was recommended to me by a friend, but thankfully gifted to me by another. I didn’t have this with my first child, but wish I did. Many changing pads are water resistant but the best feature about this pad is it’s crack resistant. It lasted my friend through three kids, and now I’m enjoying it. It’s definitely on the pricier side, but definitely a wonderful “nice-to-have” item for baby.

Babybjorn bouncer

I admit, I have three (including this item) chair type items for my child (the other two include a rocker and a swing). I’m thankful for them (which was a gifted hand-me-down from a friend), because I use them alternately to entertain the baby. I like the Babybjorn bouncer because it packs slim and I don’t worry too much about flat head, due to the soft, yet supportive material.

Apple iPad

We use an app on our iPad called BabyConnect to mainly keep track of feedings, but it’s also for diaper changes, sleep, milestones, etc. I like it because now that we are running on limited sleep, it’s difficult to remember when we last fed the baby. I also love the iPad for other obvious reasons, such as watching shows on Netflix or Hulu while using headphones during breastfeeding or pumping sessions.

nanobébé Flexy Baby Pacifier

My first kid loved the MAM pacifier, so I thought my second would prefer it as well. Needless to say, she did not. At first, I didn’t even want to use a pacifier, but after several sleepless nights, I gave in. I of course, tried the MAM, but the one my baby ended up preferring was the nanobébé one, which I actually received in the swag bag from this year’s SoCalMOMS Great Big Family Play Day.

A diaper bag for yourself

Getting new gear for the baby can be fun, but sometimes it’s nice to get a little something for yourself. I put this diaper backpack on my registry, (which my friend gifted me) mainly because I thought it was cute, functional, and something I would definitely want to use even after my child is potty trained and doesn’t need multiple outfit changes (although I still keep a change of clothes for my six year old – when I remember – in the trunk of my car in case of accidents).
