“P is for Petersen” Alphabet book about cars, enjoyable for kids and parents alike

Late last year, when we attended the special media preview for the Go Kart exhibit at The Petersen, “Sidewalk Speedsters”, we met children’s book author Glenn Oyoung. Glenn is the author of the book “C is for Car” and recently released the book, “P is for Petersen”, with illustrator Scott Park. We received a review copy of the book, and both my daughter and I love it. Here are some reasons why:

It will teach your kid big words (even before they can say them properly)

It was fun and sometimes challenging to explain to my 4-year old some of the words featured in the book. It’s great because I can use some of those words in a different context and reference the book.

It will expand your automotive vocabulary

With definitions for words such as: jalopy, dune buggy, fins, and grand touring, (you and) your kid will be able to describe in detail types of cars and accessories, whether they are in a pile of Hot Wheels, or watching the movie Cars.

It appeals to boys and girls alike

Scott Park’s illustrations have a clean, simple style, which makes it perfect as an alphabet book. Glenn, who has two young daughters, and is a total “gear head”, told me he wrote these books as a way to share and encourage his love of automobiles with them.

It will help you find your way around the Petersen

The end of the book has a floor-by-floor summary of what you can find at the Petersen Automotive Museum. My suggestion is you buy the book at the Museum Store on the first floor, read it with your kid, then tour the floors with it, trying to spot cars to go with each of the vehicles or words featured in the book!
