Readers’ favorite baby carriers

A couple weeks ago, I posted my favorite baby carrier brands and styles (The Best of Babywearing).  For this post, I’d like to share readers’ favorite carriers.  I’m highlighting parents who have more than one child, so their input comes with experience.  Here are their favorite carriers, a little bit about them, and why they like them.

Irene – Mom of three.  Seattle, Washington

Irene is a chef with The VegEartharianChef and an independent consultant for The Pampered Chef.  She and her husband, Ricci, are “babywearers.”

“Love our Sakura Bloom ring sling, Babyhawk Mei tai and Boba (which is similar to Ergo being a soft-structured carrier). Wasn’t a huge fan of the Moby since it’s stretchy but any woven wrap is great!!! There’s a whole big babywearing world out there, it’s crazy! Ricci’s  favorite carrier is our Boba 2G. Really great for bigger babies and toddlers.”

“Also consider Mei Tai carriers. They’re a nice way to get used to a soft-structured carrier (SSC) like an Ergo or a Boba (my personal favorite) by using ties instead of buckles. Babyhawk or Catbird baby have wonderful ones (and custom fabric). I found a wonderful seller on Etsy that worked with fabric that I wanted so I got a custom fabric that I’d been eying. Mei Tai’s are great but, like a Moby wrap, they tend to have a lower weight limit (though not as low as a Moby). SSC’s can go up to 40 lbs or more (especially if you get a Kinderpack) and help distribute the weight evenly without destroying your back.

Another good one to have is a sling or wrap specifically made for the water for quick drying. Jan at Sleeping Baby Productions (sleepingbaby.net) has fantastic ones and a plethora of safe babywearing information. She’s also well-respected in the babywearing sphere.”

“Never got a hang of the Moby but finally like the Ergo now that I can put baby on my back. Used Baby Bjorn when she was up front.”
