Our first filet mignon – Sponsored by Milk & Eggs

Last week, I cooked and ate my very first filet mignon. It was a first for my 5-year old and myself. It might be shocking that I’ve never had this cut of steak. Most of it had to do with the price, and that I never felt confident in the past about my cooking skills, fearing I would ruin it. Thankfully, I’m better in the kitchen and with cooking steak, thanks to lots of practice. For April’s Milk & Eggs sponsored post, I’m continuing the steak theme, but leveled up a notch to their most expensive cut of premium beef.

Milk & Eggs is a curated food delivery service. Their cuts of premium meats are the same brands sold to restaurants. At around $50.00 for 12 ounces, the filet mignon cut is not cheap, but is extremely delicious.

What I love about steak is when you have a quality cut, all you need is salt and pepper to enhance the flavor. It’s my preferred method of seasoning. If I had fresh herbs on hand, I would probably use them. Otherwise, I’m good as is.

look at this gorgeous cut! P.S. probably a rookie mistake, but some blogs have said not to season the sides. oops.

I stuck to the traditional “sear and broil” method, using LOTS of butter, and some garlic. Once again, the CAST IRON SKILLET is essential for this step.

Since I like my steak rare, I put it in my 400 degree oven for 6 minutes after searing it for 4 minutes on each side. I used LOTS OF real butter.

Before and after cooking the steak, don’t forget to let it rest. 30 minutes before cooking, and about 6 minutes after cooking.

We both enjoyed it very much. I may be “spoiling” my kid by treating her to expensive tastes, but I wish I tried well-prepared steak when I was young. As good of a cook my mom is, steak was not her forte. I grew up eating “well done” steak, and not enjoying it very much. It wasn’t until I was an adult did I appreciate rare meat and the deliciousness of it all. Thank you, Milk & Eggs!
