That Bindi Trend

Weekend One (April 11-13, 2014) of Coachella is still making headlines. Sites such as hollywoodlife.com wrote about the fashion trends from the first of the two weekends. One of them being the bindi trend. While there is some controversy regarding it’s true meaning, a Huffington Post article by Anjali Joshi defends that it is NOT an example of cultural appropriation.

I was adorned with bindi and henna at my blessingway last year (March 2013), which my good friend Elaine threw for me before my baby shower.

Now that Elaine is pregnant, I’ll be helping with her blessingway and baby shower in a few months. I went to a store I drove by several times in the Palms neighborhood to buy her bindi. It’s called Bollywood Styles, located on Overland, just north of Venice Blvd. They sell beautiful Indian clothes and accessories and the lady who owns it is very nice. I told her I was buying bindi for a friend’s blessingway and wanted to make sure I didn’t buy one that had a particular meaning attached to it, such as for a wedding. She said they are just for decoration, so just pick whichever ones I liked!
