The 34th Annual Malibu Kiwanis Chili Cook-off (Review by Shelby + Thaice)

Hi, it’s Shelby again, and today I have a special guest blogging with me, my best friend since we were three, Thaice – “I’m so thrilled to blog with you today, Shelby!!!…”

Now let’s talk chili…

CocoaChili

There were around 20 different vendors who made chili, all competing for the 1st place winner ribbon! The funniest thing was the guy who won 1st place for making the best chili had never made chili before! He usually teaches music. It’s so hard to believe, but it’s true! Well, I don’t think he would lie – the first time I (Thaice) made eggs they were so good! We both agree it was very yummy chili and it had cocoa in it.

So, we asked ourselves (to each other),

“What was your favorite chili stand?”

Well, it’s hard to say.

We liked them ALL even though they were all so, so different.

Shelby: I liked the first one I tried from, Tavern 1/Malibu’s Own BBQ Restaurant. It was so good and the owner, Marco, and the other people in his booth, were nice too! I’m not sure what prize they won but I’m sure it was a good one.

Thaice: I agree with you on that, Shelby – it was yummy! But my favorite was the guy who won 1st – I love chocolate!!

Also, we liked the Fire House Chili, which was smoky – they were so upset they didn’t place in the top three…

Also, two local Rugby clubs were there with their chilies – The Santa Monica Dolphins and The Malibu Rugby Club. Both their chilies were good, but we say leave the chili to the Americans 😉

Mom’s favorites

Our moms’ (Jonna & Candice) favorite seemed to be the BBQ flavor chili from Mestico and Jersey Jimmy’s Killer Chili from New Jersey.

Games and Rides

THEN there were the fun games and rides: we all won little stuffed dogs on the train race game and a different kind of stuffed dog at the balloon pop game. But I’d have to say our favorite two games were the softball game where the ball was floating and the ladder climb; that’s where we wanted to spend most our money…even though we didn’t win it was still a total blast!

The rides were scary. Thaice and her mom really enjoyed the zero gravity one that goes around and sort of sticks you to the wall and the roller coaster Thunder Bolt that goes around-and-around, up-and-down, forwards and then backwards. Yikes!

Note from Moms

Our moms want us to mention that the prices were way too high and you don’t get anything included in the entrance fee – our moms think that’s why it was not very filled with people…
