Yesterday, my family and I attended a special preview of the new 3D movie from SK Films, “Volcanoes 3D: The Fires of Creation” at the California Science Center. I prepped my 5-year old by showing her some videos online about volcanoes, so she was fully aware of what to expect. She was intrigued.
Volcanoes 3D: The Fires of Creation on the IMAX screen is quite impressive. Explorer and National Geographic Photographer Carsten Peter guides the audience in an in-depth, never-seen-before look into an active volcano in Indonesia and a lava lake in Vanuatu. We also learn about the origin and history of volcanoes, from the destruction in Pompeii to the most recent Kilauea explosion in Hawaii.
After the film, we were treated to a Q&A with Carsten Peter. We learned he was mildly burnt while exploring volcanoes and his lack of preparation during his very first official active volcano exploring mission. His adventurous spirit is giving us a glimpse into what we would have not otherwise been able to see in the past.
