Wardrobe Makeover – Classic Pieces (part 1 of 4)

It’s been so long since I’ve kept up with fashion that the lack of fashion has become trendy. However, the fashion trend normcore is intentional and doesn’t work for all occasions. My current go-to outfit is either shorts and t-shirts, or the “mommy outfit” of yoga pants, a tank top, and a sweatshirt. I did a wardrobe cleanse a few months ago and donated a bunch of clothes to Goodwill. Now I have to replenish my wardrobe with “grown up clothes.” But with what?

I asked my fashion-educated, stylish friend and fellow mommy Maria Aldana to be the guest contributor for this series. She always looked great during her pregnancy and I continue to admire her style today.  If I could look like I even tried, I think I would be happy. She did an amazing job answering my questions and even provided photo collages. I’ve added some links from Amazon for additional inspiration. This is part 1 of a 4 part series.  Check back every Wednesday!

About Maria by Maria

Maria Aldana

“I’ve always been into fashion at a young age, but took a strong interest when I was in London for my undergraduate degree in 2002. Two years ago, I left the corporate world and decided to go back to school. I attended Parsons in NYC and studied fashion design. Less than a week after I moved to NY, I was literally thrown into the fashion world. I worked backstage at the Cynthia Rowley runway show and along side with her and her design team.  I learned my way around NYC and the subway system very quickly running fashion errands around the city. I also worked for the fabric team at Vera Wang and took a strong interest in learning about various textiles and prints.  Last year, I got married and moved back to Seattle where my son was born. He’s now 8 months old and I’m enjoying the joys of being a new mom. I still keep current with the fashion world through social media and the web. I’m currently working on an organic baby line. I’m designing my own fabric and prints right now, which is really exciting.”

You can layer these pieces and easily go from a casual daytime look to a more polished evening look. These will work for different occasions and yes, even for running errands. Wear a basic tee with your favorite jeans or leggings and throw on the blazer or a cardigan for a more polished look. Most of these classic pieces, I was able to wear during pregnancy and after baby. A few extra items that I’ve always had in my wardrobe that I find work well for me through out the years is a leather moto jacket and ankle boots.
