Watch the movie SING, in theaters December 21st

Last night, my daughter and I attended a special media screening of the movie Sing, presented by Illumination at AMC Movie theater at Westfield Century City. It was a heart-filled, laugh-out-loud, fun movie, filled with nostalgic pop songs and cute characters. The animation was fantastic – there were some scenes that looked quite realistic. The music was moving – I didn’t think I would get teary eyed watching a pig sing, but I did!

Sing is about pursuing your passions even when life gets in the way

The featured characters in Sing have busy individual lives, but they all come together when Buster Moon, a koala who owns an (on it’s way to foreclosure) theatre, holds auditions for a “make-it-or-break-it” singing competition to save the venue.

The Characters

Buster Moon (Koala, Show Producer)

Buster Moon, voiced by Matthew McConaughey, owns the once-celebrated theater. He is well-intentioned, kind, and lovable, but doesn’t always give an honest answer. He has a talent for escaping, but learns he has to face the music and deal with his problems face-to-face. His years of experience in the business brings a very talented group together.

Johnny (Gorilla)

Johnny, voiced by Taron Egerton, is a young adult gorilla who is the getaway driver for his dad’s gang of thieves. He lives a life he’s no too happy about, but does it to please his dad. He keeps his passion and talent for singing to himself as long as possible.

Ash (Porcupine)

Ash, voiced by Scarlett Johansson, played and sang backup with her boyfriend. Once she is released from second fiddle status, she goes through angst, revelation, and discovery of her own voice and sound.

Rosita (Pig)

Rosita, voiced by Reese Witherspoon, is a mother of 25 piglets and wife to a husband who barely realizes she is there. Rosita is my daughter’s and my favorite character of the movie. Singing is her escape from reality of dishes, cooking, and caring for her brood. She discovers a different side of her during the singing competition, which was in her all along.

Mike (Mouse)

Mike, voiced by Seth McFarlane, is a talented but broke jazz musician who likes all things shiny. He is a crooner who gets into situations much bigger than himself.

Meena (Elephant)

Meena, voiced by Tori Kelly, is extremely talented but exceedingly shy. Only her family and close friends know her true talent. She will help others before herself, but finally overcomes her fears with several gentle pushes from Buster.

Gunter (Pig)

Gunter, voiced by Nick Kroll, is a catalyst to loosening up Rosita’s inhibitions. He provides plenty of laughs in the film.

Sing will make you sing!

I loved the music from this movie. The soundtrack has a lot of really good featured songs, such as Faith By Stevie Wonder, featuring Ariana Grande. On the Sing soundtrack are famous actors such as Scarlett Johansson showing off their singing chops (Set It All Free), and the very talented Grammy-nominated Tori Kelly singing Hallelujah, and Don’t You Worry ‘Bout A Thing.
