Week of Giveaways to celebrate One Year of Blogging

One year ago this week, I was in the middle of planning a fundraiser, Desserts for Disaster Relief, to benefit the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. It was part of the motivation to start this blog, Westside Mommy. Together, with new mom friends, previous contacts, and new connections, we held our event at Essential Chocolate Desserts in Culver City and raised money to help send members of Awaken Arts (formerly known as The 24 Foundation) to Bantayan Island in the Philippines . They were able to work with another great non-profit for the arts I connected them with, The Peace Project, who recently finished building 40 of 200 planned homes for families who lost theirs in the typhoon.

Since then, my network of friends has grown. This blog gave me a place to share thoughts about being a mom, motivated me to explore places and parks with my baby, and learn more about parenting. Best of all, I discovered a way to make me feel like myself again, through Baby Boot Camp.  Trainers Melinda and Elizabeth helped me look and feel like my old self (but better!) through their program. I learned a lot about eating healthier, and met a wonderful group of fit moms!

Melinda and Elizabeth introduced me to Rachel Pitzel the founder of Los Angeles Club MomMe. I had the pleasure of attending two amazing Family Fests – The Club MomMe Spring Family Fest, and recently, The Club MomMe Fall Family Fest. There, I met other bloggers, business owners, attended helpful panels, and learned about products that help with parenting.

I’m glad I didn’t give up on my blog. So many other good things have come of it. Here are a few other highlights:
