My daughter loves Halloween, mainly because she gets to dress up. Although she finds ghoulish things a bit on the scary side, she does enjoy a good (not-so-scary) book. We received an advance ready copy of the book, “The Frightful Ride of Michael McMichael”<\/strong><\/a>, written by Bonny Becker<\/a> and illustrated by Mark Fearing<\/a>. It’s geared to early readers, ages 4-8 and published by Candlewick Press. Although my daughter doesn’t read yet, she was completely engaged when I read it to her.<\/p>\n

“The Frightful Ride of Michael McMichael”<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0is about a boy who boards a bus and the interesting passengers he encounters on his way to his grandmother’s house. It’s an especially creepy ride, and the bus driver gets even creepier after each stop. When Michael becomes the last passenger on the bus, we learn of an exciting twist.<\/p>\n

This book has a great buildup of characters and rhymes. It also will help children feel empowered and less fearful of “things that go bump in the night.” The characters are illustrated with a menacing look without being overly scary. It’s the perfect book for the Halloween season and anytime you want a fun chuckle.<\/p>\n
