If there\u2019s been one constant over the course of my life, it\u2019s my love for video games.  So when my wife asked me if I wanted to cover the showcase of the new Dreamscape Immersive VR experience<\/a><\/strong> at Westfield Century City, of course I thought it had to be too good to be true.  As expected, no doubt, it was a great time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My friend Ryan & I arrived in the theater-like facility, and were treated to delicious appetizers & cocktails, while we waited to be escorted to one of three separate VR interactions.  When it was our turn, the \u201cguide\u201d took us to a prep room, with 4 other guests, where you are instructed to strap sensors to your hands & feet, & put on a backpack. Then you enter the arena where you place your Oculus headset on, & your experience begins.  Each session lasts about 12 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So far, I have only had the opportunity to test VR one other time, and it just so happened to be at a friend\u2019s house who was working on the development of the first encounter we had tickets for- The Blu: Deep Rescue<\/a><\/strong>. (I found this out later for sure, but I knew it seemed familiar.) Without giving too much away, I will tell you, this adventure takes you to the bottom of the ocean to locate a missing blue whale.  I never thought I would have the chance to really know what the deep sea looks & feels like, but this was absolutely breathtaking. The Dreamscape<\/a><\/strong> experience even makes the air around you feel like you are really there! Just being in the \u201ccontrol room\u201d before your dive, & looking at your friends in their virtual dive suits, then giving them a high five, is one of the most surreal memories I will ever have!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was a brief interlude after our first experience, where we enjoyed more apps & cocktails.  Then, it was on to the Alien Zoo<\/a><\/strong>. Again, I don\u2019t want to give too much away, but just imagine reaching out to pet what looks like a medium sized friendly dinosaur in your headset, & actually feeling something!  This one is definitely going to be a kid favorite!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, we weren\u2019t able to experience the third adventure- Curse Of The Lost Pearl<\/a><\/strong> (which appears to pay homage to Indiana Jones), due to a lack of time.  This just gives me an excuse to go back! I think that VR is more than just a novelty, but you won\u2019t really know until you see for yourself. I can imagine not too long from now, being able to import your favorite book, & relax with some music, while reading & floating on the rings of Saturn!  Entire new worlds, & locations on this one that you may have given up hope of ever visiting, are now a short car ride away, in a safe, professional, & friendly setting, thanks to Dreamscape<\/a><\/strong>. You turn your head & there\u2019s something new & amazing to look at. Not only can I not wait to go back, but I can\u2019t wait to take friends & family the next time they are in town!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
