Even though the closest beach is only minutes away, I will drive out further if the water quality is better at another beach. A couple of weeks ago, I wanted to try <a href=\"http:\/\/beaches.lacounty.gov\/wps\/portal\/dbh\/home\/detail\/?current=true&amp;urile=wcm:path:\/dbh+content\/dbh+site\/home\/home+detail\/marina+beach\" target=\"_blank\">Mother&#8217;s Beach in Marina Del Rey<\/a>. As the name implies, one would think it&#8217;s a good place for kids. There&#8217;s even a playground right on the beach. However, after reading <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/marina-mothers-beach-marina-del-rey\" target=\"_blank\">some recent reviews on Yelp<\/a>, I learned it is dirty, smells horrible, and has an &#8220;F&#8221; grade for water quality on the Heal the Bay Beach Report Card!<\/p>\n<p>While my guests were in town, we went to the beach twice &#8211; last Friday we went to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/manhattan-beach-los-angeles\" target=\"_blank\">Manhattan Beach<\/a>, and Sunday\u00a0we went to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/hermosa-beach-hermosa-beach\" target=\"_blank\">Hermosa Beach<\/a>. Tomorrow, we have plans to go to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.parks.ca.gov\/?page_id=623\" target=\"_blank\">Point Dume<\/a>, in Malibu.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some resources to help you in your search for a clean beach. Note that the water quality\u00a0will vary per year (or even season), and it&#8217;s a smart idea to check the beach&#8217;s website for up-to-date information.
