Today, my family and I watched the opening day of Shrek The Musical<\/em> at Santa Monica’s Morgan-Wixson Theatre. It was presented by the Youth Education\/Entertainment Series (Y.E.S.), which is part of the Morgan-Wixson Theatre\u2019s<\/strong> commitment to engaging young audiences, training young talent, and supporting literacy.<\/p>\n

Here are three reasons to watch Shrek The Musical<\/em><\/p>\n

Creative Props and Costumes<\/h2>\n

Shrek The Musical<\/em> has top-notch costumes and props. There were many creative touches which brought the fairy tale adventure to life on stage. From the humor of Pinocchio’s robotic nose to the impressive three-person controlled dragon, everything was thoughtfully and carefully planned and executed. My favorite musical number was the one starring Lord Farquaad because of the fantastic costumes and choreography.<\/p>\n

Talented Actors and Singers<\/h2>\n

Almost every actor on stage, even the young ones, has experience and credits. There are talented veterans and newcomers to the Y.E.S. program. Anne Gesling directed Shrek The Musical<\/em>, and did a fantastic job with this cast. Shrek The Musical features all new songs from Jeanine Tesori and the book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire. It was wonderful to see these young talented actors and singers perform this Tony Award-winning musical.<\/p>\n

Part Romance, Part Twisted Fairy Tale<\/h2>\n

Shrek, the movie, first released in theaters in 2001. That was fourteen years ago. It’s nice to see a new generation of children, who didn’t grow up watching these movies, share and enjoy the same story today. Shrek<\/em> is a funny, sweet story about looking past appearances. Shrek The Musical<\/em> is a great way to relive the same story with your family, through song and dance.<\/p>\n

Shrek The Musical <\/em><\/strong>runs from November 7th through December 12th
\nPerformances on Saturdays and Sundays at 2PM<\/p>\n
