Today, my daughter and I participated in the 2016 LA Cancer Challenge<\/strong><\/a> event at UCLA which benefits\u00a0The Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research<\/a><\/strong>. I jog\/walked the 5K, and my daughter did the Kids Fun Run. Logistically, I rode to the event with my friend and her baby (who did the 5K as well), and our respective husbands dropped off the kids for the fun run after. Running isn’t my strong suit, but I try to run a 5K every year. This year, I was invited to participate and raise awareness and shed light on pancreatic cancer, which takes the lives of thousands of people every year.<\/p>\n

Events are more fun with friends! I woke up a lot earlier than I’m used to, but my smile is genuine. My friend’s baby was so good – he slept the entire time! I saw many\u00a0babies and toddlers in strollers, young kids, and even a few dogs joining the run!<\/p>\n

It was an overcast day, which to me, is perfect jogging weather. We lined up according to pace – the eight minute milers, followed by the ten minute mile pace, then the walkers and joggers. There were a few people in costume, but since it was raining on and off, I think most people stuck to workout wear. It was touching to see the memorial shirts of those who lost a loved one.<\/p>\n

I jogged and walked most of the way. My time wasn’t great (43:40), but I’m glad I did it. The finisher’s medal is really cute too.<\/p>\n

My daughter wanted my friend to walk with her for the Kid’s Fun Run. Unfortunately, it started pouring right when the Kid’s Fun Run started. We didn’t have an umbrella (a bad oversight on my part), but at least she still did it. She got a medal too, which is a nice memorabilia for her first Fun Run.<\/p>\n

The Kid’s Zone had a some activities including pumpkin decorating, face painting, story time, a bounce house, and some vendors gave\u00a0away free samples. The kids really enjoyed decorating pumpkins and eating the yogurt pouches from GoGo Squeez<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n
