I met Jessica Colla\u00e7o<\/strong>, founder of Shine Your Light Books<\/strong><\/a> and author of children’s book\u00a0Firenze’s Light<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>at STAR Eco Station’s Children’s Earth Day<\/strong><\/a> event in Culver City a couple\u00a0months ago. I learned\u00a0about her mission: to create books, which tell\u00a0stories that model compassion, reflection, self-worth and kindness. Together with her illustrator, Angela Li<\/strong>,\u00a0their hope is that these\u00a0books will\u00a0nurture\u00a0loving, peaceful children who will one day become\u00a0loving, peaceful adults.<\/p>\n

As a parent of a young girl, I am quite selective of the books we keep on her shelf and what shows I allow her to watch. I love stories, such as Firenze’s Light<\/em><\/strong>, which showcase individuality and the importance of appreciating\u00a0who you are. The story is encouraging, optimistic, and the illustrations are gorgeous. The insects’ names are quite clever too! Angela Li did a beautiful job with the artistic lighting effects.<\/p>\n

We received a copy of\u00a0Firenze’s Light<\/a><\/em><\/strong> to review two weeks ago. It was well-received by\u00a0my four-year-old daughter, who really enjoys it. She’s asked for it as her bedtime story several times, and also likes “reading” it on her own.<\/p>\n
