We visited NKLA Shelter because it is National Dog Day

Today, August 26th, is National Dog Day. Our plan is not to get a dog until my daughter is ready to help take care of one. Until then, we visit shelters (and friends who have dogs) to say hello to our furry friends.

We like visiting all shelters, but today, we went to NKLA in West LA. I like this shelter a lot, and here is why:

  • It’s very clean and well-maintained

  • It has a cute cottage design and style

  • The staff is very friendly

  • late visiting hours: NKLA is open daily from noon – 8:00pm, whereas the city shelter on Pico closes at 5pm and isn’t open on Mondays

  • it’s a No-Kill shelter

Here are some photos from our visit. Happy National Dog Day!

Each of the wings is named after a major street in Los Angeles. There is a touchscreen computer with each of the dog’s profiles.

This dog only has one eye. He reminds me of a well-loved stuffed animal!

I’m a parent of two girls. I started this blog while living in Los Angeles, shortly after having my first daughter. I started it to share information about events, classes, and products. We now live in Northern Virginia, a suburb of Washington, D.C.
