Book Review: “You Made Me A Mother”

Recently, I received the book, You Made Me A Mother, written by Laurenne Sala and illustrated by Robin Preiss Glasser. It’s become a favorite of my daughter’s – so much that she asked me to do story time with her last night instead of her father because she wanted me to read it to her (I previously explained to her that Daddy cannot read it to her because it’s Mommy’s special book for her).

The targeted age range for the book is 4-8, but kids as young as three (such as my daughter), will enjoy it. My daughter really loves the part at the beginning of the book where the mom says baby grew in her tummy from the size of a pea to an eggplant!

About the Book

The book, You Made Me A Mother, is based on this promotional video by Boba baby carriers. Using Laurenne Sala‘s words from the video, book publisher Harper Collins hired Fancy Nancy book illustrator Robin Preiss Glasser to create images for the emotional celebration of motherhood for You Made Me A Mother. This 32-page book explains motherly love to a child, from in-utero to preschool age and beyond.

It is a sweet, wonderful way to express to your child how special he or she is to you. I’ve read it almost a dozen times and I tear up every time! I dare you to keep a dry eye.

About Laurenne Sala

AuthorPhoto_LaurenneSala2Laurenne Sala began her career at an ad agency writing funny commercials for the fast food chain, Jack in the Box. She was a devout vegetarian, but this first job taught her how to write as if she were in someone else’s shoes. This came in handy as she then went on to write commercials and content for video games and headphones and other stuff she doesn’t use. She took everything she learned in advertising to write a memoir of her father’s life from his point of view and then You Made Me a Mother, which placed her in a mother’s shoes.

Her empathy led her to host and produce a stage show called Taboo Tales, which inspires storytellers to get on stage to tell their deepest secrets. She’s written articles all over the internet for places like Huffington Post, Tiny Buddha, Salon, and GOOD magazine.

Laurenne lives in Los Angeles with her fiance and a yellow cat named Cheddar.
