Care Bears turns 35 this year!

I grew up watching the Care Bears and owned a stuffed bear or two (I loved Funshine Bear). This year is their 35th Anniversary and they are still as popular as ever. My daughter watches Care Bears on Netflix, so she was excited when I took her to a special celebration screening of Care Bears & Cousins at Giggles n’ Hugs at Westfield Topanga in Canoga Park. It was a fun way to spend a Sunday, as I’d never been to that mall or neighborhood before. Wow, what a kid-friendly mall. I’d never seen so many activities for children in one place. My daughter enjoyed the ball pit the most at Giggles n’ Hugs and had a great time running around the elevated enclosed bridge.

We watched three episodes of Care Bears & Cousins and identified the messages and lessons in each episode. My daughter loves Cheer Bear the most and Grumpy Bear second. Of the Care Bears & Cousins, she liked Bright Heart Raccoon the best. The episodes show a range of emotions, and how to best deal with them. As cute and cuddly as the characters are, the show isn’t overly and annoyingly sweet, which is one of the reasons why they’re so successful. I think the perfect age category for this show is between 3-5.

First introduced by American Greetings in 1982 through consumer products, greeting cards, and later an animated CGI television show, Care Bears has become one of the world’s most popular and endearing children’s properties. Today, fans of all ages around the world are falling in love with these huggable bears who help kids have fun while sharing and caring, and they enjoy a robust portfolio of thousands of Care Bears licensed products at retailers globally. They also had their own television series from 1985 to 1988, which is currently available to watch on Netflix. The new Netflix Original Series “Care Bears & Cousins”, launched in fall 2015, and continues to delight fans around the world. The brand also has a robust social media following, has more than 25 million views of new and classic videos on YouTube, and has a portfolio of popular apps for mobile devices.
