IMAX with Laser at California Science Center

Last Sunday, we attended a special screening of AMAZON ADVENTURE 3D at California Science Center’s IMAX Theatre and experienced their brand-new IMAX with Laser projection system and 12-channel surround sound system.

This renovation and upgrade takes the audience experience to new heights, providing exceptional sound and vivid color to the seven-story screen.

The Sound

They played a demo of the evolution of sound, and boy was it impressive. From mono to stereo all the way to their current set-up of 12 channels plus sub-bass and additional side and overhead channels, the audio engulfs you in the best way possible.

The Laser

The new IMAX with Laser projection system is cutting-edge technology. The new Laser system produces vivid colors, creating a theater experience unlike no other. This dual 4K laser projection system is equipped with a new optical engine, proprietary IMAX technologies which produces an image with maximum resolution and sharpness.

Amazon Adventure 3D

Amazon Adventure 3D and Hurricane 3D are two new films that premiered recently, created especially for the new technology. We watched Amazon Adventure 3D, which was vibrant and impressive. The angles shot of the trees really took advantage of the height of the screen, and the colors of the animals were bright and vibrant. The storyline was really good too. It recreates Henry Bates’ adventure through the Amazon rainforest and his quest to solve the puzzle of animal mimicry and find proof for Darwin’s theory of natural selection.

Hurricane 3D

We didn’t watch Hurricane 3D, because we were warned it might be too loud and unsettling for younger viewers, but like Amazon Adventure 3D, it was made for viewing on the new IMAX with Laser system.
