Friday, August 28th was the sneak peek of Mendocino Farms’ newest location at The Point in El Segundo. I couldn’t attend the event because I was under the weather, so I asked my writer friend Ashley Hall to go in my place. She did an awesome job covering the kid-friendly offerings and taking photos! I can’t wait to check it out when it opens. It looks like it’s going to be great!
Mendocino Farms opens A New Location at The Point in El Segundo
With over 10 locations in LA and the surrounding area, Mendocino Farms is opening a beautiful new South Bay location at The Point– 840 South Sepulveda, Suite 100, El Segundo, CA 90245 on September 5th, 2015. The Point, the shopping area where the restaurant is located, is tailor-made for kids. There’s lots of grass for kids to play on and even a clubhouse for kids to play in. Inside Mendocino Farms, there’s foosball table and cornhole toss game, which provides fun for everyone.
Kid-friendly space
The first thing I notice when I enter any establishment with a child is the general vibe. Is it accommodating? Is it light and friendly? Is this a place that not only accepts children, but enjoys them?
Mendocino Farms is welcoming and accommodating. The owners, Mario Del Pero & Ellen Chen, parents themselves, incorporated a kid-friendly vibe that meets the physical, emotional and mental needs of all children. this is something they keep in mind when they open each new restaurant.
Only the best ingredients
The food at Mendocino Farms is delicious and contains only natural and organic ingredients. There are gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options. The meat options use heritage meats that were humanely raised without antibiotics and with vegetarian feed.
Kid’s Menu
They have a great kids menu that helps kids learn how to order on their own. There are step-by-step directions just for them:
Step 1: pick your sandwich
with options like grilled cheese, ham and provolone, or House PB & Local Jelly to name a few, toasted or untoasted on “kid friendly” quinoa wheat bread, add mayo or mustard by request (which I like, because most kids want things plain)
Step 2: Pick your drink
all natural fountain soda, seasonal lemonade, water, etc
Step 3: Pick your side
– seasonal fruit, grape tomatoes or apples. Lots of options: all healthy, all appealing to kids and no sauces or extras they have to pick off.
High Chairs and Changing Tables
Every Mendocino Farms has high chairs available. There are changing stations in both Men’s and Women’s restrooms. The changing station in the men’s room is not always easy to find, so Mendocino Farms made a special point to include one. They know it’s just as important for fathers to have access to a clean changing area as it is for moms!
The Kid’s Corner
Last, but not least, every Mendocino Farms has a kid’s corner. Different in every restaurant, the El Segundo location provides kid-sized chairs. This is an area where kids can sit and play with letters on a magnetic wall, color, or read a book. In a little cove in the kid’s corner is little nook with a beautiful mural that explains ecosystems and how everything is connected. The ecosystem explanation goes further to explain how we get our food – how the sun plays a part in photosynthesis, which helps the grass grow, the cows eat the grass and provide us with dairy products and meat, as well as keeping the soil healthy with their manure.
