SoCal MOMS Great Big Family Play Day 2017

Yesterday, May 7th, my family and I attended SoCal MOMS Great Big Family Play Day in Griffith Park as media guests of CityMoms AppLast year’s event was a lot of fun, so we knew this year was going to be a blast. The event took place on the picturesque grounds of The Autry Museum of the American West.

We arrived early, so we were able to catch the first Lisa Loeb performance at 10am.

Lisa Loeb

Lisa Loeb sang some songs from her latest album, Feel What U Feel, available exclusively on Amazon. “Feel What U Feel” is a family album of mostly original songs featuring guest artists Craig Robinson, Ed Helms and others.

Carnival Rides

There were ticketed rides, such as a carousel swing, bounce houses, inflatable slides, a climbing wall, and more. My kid enjoyed the carousel swing and the slides the most.

Food

CityMoms App hosted the VIP tent, which included yummy treats. I liked the avocado spread on (un-toasted) bread, Califa Farms almond milk options and juices (I really enjoyed the Califia Farms Double Espresso Pure Cold Brew Coffee with Almond Milk), and my daughter loved the Otis Spunkmeyer blueberry muffins.

At the Milk and Eggs stand, we tried food from local farmer’s markets (it’s a fresh food delivery service): brownies, hummus, and crackers.

Beauty Services from SalonMom.com

My kid loves getting her nails done. She actually had her first manicure at last year’s Great Big Family Play Day and has been hooked ever since. This year, nails and other beauty services were provided by Salon Mom, an on-demand beauty app for your phone, which has competitive salon prices but in the comfort of your own home, or whichever location you choose. Bonus: they even deal with lice – something no mom wants go through but probably has to deal with #momproblems …solved!

We met Ruby from Ruby’s Studio

We met Ruby from Ruby’s Studio. The Emmy Award winning series Ruby’s Studio is part of The Mother Company, which can be seen on a variety of platforms. It’s a series of videos, books, and more which is “designed to nurture social and emotional learning in young children. In each episode, beloved show host, Ruby, welcomes children to her art studio for a day of fun and learning.”

Ruby read A Little Book About Safety on stage, which teaches kids important information such as who to seek for help if they get lost, and read more books at the Books and Cookies area afterwards.

Face Painting by Couture Paintings

Of course, my daughter had to get her face painted. The artist from Couture Paintings did a lovely job painting an anime-type unicorn and embellishments on my kid’s face! It stayed on, even while eating some yummy lunch from Lucille’s Smokehouse BBQ.
