Andrew and Polly: Ear Snacks CD review

My daughter and I first heard Andrew and Polly at a mini concert at Children’s Book World in West L.A. We enjoyed them so much and learned they were well-known for their kid-focused music centered (and comedic) podcast, Ear Snacks. Thankfully, they live in Los Angeles, so we’ve had plenty more opportunities to watch them live. Recently, they released the album Ear Snacks: Songs from the Podcast. This upbeat album will make you want to dance. Much like their live performances, it is interactive, silly, and fun. The songs are so catchy, my three-year old recalled a few of them after hearing them once!

The questions and answers kids have are delicious and nutritious food for thought – and definitely for our songwriting! – Andrew Barkan (Andrew and Polly)

Andrew and Polly

The world around us is totally fascinating in both a micro and macro way – Polly Hall (Andrew and Polly)

Some of our favorite songs from Ear Snacks: Songs from the Podcast

Dancing Pants

This song definitely gets the body moving. It’s such a great song, I plan on incorporating it in my child’s morning routine before school. My kid and I are not morning people, so this will be a fun way to wake our bodies up!

Ballphabet

Who knew there were so many different types of balls? Andrew and Polly cover a variety of them in under two minutes!

Grapes

This is a hilarious song that appeals to both kids and adults. Kids love it because its about a delicious fruit, and adults like it because they can relate to the story in the song – hunger is something you think about alot when you are doing something boring; hunger is something you might ignore when doing something fun; hunger is best satiated (with grapes) while doing something fun with a friend.

Tiny Dino

Tiny Dino shows you can be small and fierce! This is a great message for kids, especially a tiny one like mine 🙂 “I may be small, but I’m tough…”

I Wanna Be a Giraffe

This song talks about how standing out, being yourself, and trying something new is a good thing!

Expo Line

This is a song most Angelenos can relate to. The much anticipated L.A. Metro Expo Line finally opened this year, and it’s definitely reason to celebrate. Andrew and Polly sing about why it’s so awesome in “Expo Line.”

Bonus items with CD

Included with Ear Snacks: Songs from the Podcast is a 20-page “Snacktivity” booklet, jam-packed with creative activity ideas for kids based on the topics explored in the first season of the podcast.  Andrew Barkan says, “After spending a lot of time in the car with our own small human, we thought it would be fun to include some games and thought experiments to help families extend the album and podcast into their real lives.”

About Andrew and Polly

2015-la-andrew polly

Andrew & Polly started making music together as college undergraduates and, by now, have become a fixture on the L.A. music scene, in high demand for their sparkling music for films, TV, and commercials, with “grownup” music credits too numerous to mention, including a 2015 Emmy nomination for Polly Hall.  On the kid side of things, their production credits include dope jams like “Grapes” and songs for Sesame Studios and Nickelodeon’s Wallykazam! as well as the score to the Nick digital series Welcome to the Wayne. Their music regularly charts on SiriusXM’s Kids Place Live, and their podcast, Ear Snacks, broadcasts monthly on the same channel.  The two co-founded and serve on the board of Kids Listen, a new group advocating for quality audio programming for kids. In the word of live music, Andrew & Polly tour nationally and can be caught performing in and around Los Angeles at local bookshops, parks, schools and charity events. They are a true mom-and-pop team in every sense of the phrase, professionally and as the proud parents of their two-year-old son, Izzy.

Previous albums by Andrew & Polly include Odds & Ends (2015, Parents’ Choice® Award, Fids & Kamily Top 10 Albums of the Year), Up and At ‘Em! (2010, ASCAP Foundation Joe Raposo Children’s Music Award for the song “When You’re a Dog”), and a holiday EP, Other Days (2015).
